We all are who we are. No getting around that. Even if we put on makeup, false smiles, and act as if we’re really happy, even when we’re not. But, it’s time to take a deeper look into ourselves and embrace that we do belong, we are enough, and there are plenty of wild flowers in the meadow of the world that will love us just as we are…regardless of the face we inhabit.
To that end, today we celebrate individual beauty, self-acceptance and everyone’s right to belong, with our guest Mila Jam who’s gone from YouTube sensation to pop recording artist with her new single, Faces. Inspired to counteract all the negativity that media bombards us with, Mila wrote this song as an inspiration to recognize the beauty that we each offer to the world.
The powerful single includes an equally compelling music video with appearances by many of the leading “Faces” in today’s LGBTQ community including Unbreakable’s Titus Burgess, Laverne Cox, supermodel Geena Rocero, Candis Cayne, RuPaul’s Drag Race’s Peppermint, Transparent’s Zackary Drucker and Trace Lysette, and many more, all lip syncing to Mila’s formidable vocals. Additional LGBTQ notables who appear in the music video are trans businesswoman Angelica Ross, Sense8’s Jamie Clayton, MTV Making His Band’s Jaila Simms, MTV Real World’s Davis Mallory, Dollhouse diva Lina Bradford, Jai Rodriguez, Ari Gold and the transgender actress from TV Land’s Lopez series, Rain Valdez. Faces is meant to be a moving and modern reminder to embrace the love of self.
- She didn’t choose who she is, but she chooses to be open about it
- It’s a universal experience & not about being transgender…
- What does the rainbow flag really represent?
- The perception of others is the real problem, not me or you
- You can be honest about something without bringing hate into the conversation
